Tara-Marie González LCSWR

Picture it: May 1994, Adelphi  University, Garden City, NY, a 22 year old receives her Masters in Social Work and already has passed her certification exam. My lifelong journey in Social Work had begun. I have had a plethora of different experiences in my career since then and feel so blessed to have worked with so many different populations. I have worked in inpatient psychiatric wards, I have worked in and managed the development of 5 outpatient drug and alcohol facilities, built and ran an alternative high school in Queens, worked with the NYPD, FDNY, FBI, and DOC at Ground Zero during 9/11, and performed CISD to first responders at the recovery site. I have also established and fulfilled a contract with the federal probation department to treat their clients. I have made presentations to 5 NFL teams and the NBA during their rookie camps on sexual harassment and anger management.

Currently, I work as a therapist and advocate for many children with ADD and ADHD and anxiety at school meetings as well. since establishing private practice 18 years ago, I have presented at the national CHADD conference, covering topics such as “Introduction to effective strategies for adults with ADHD." I have developed a close relationship with the Five Towns Orthodox Jewish community and treat many of its families. I love working with the kids I treat, especially the ADHD children. My goal is to help them realize that ADHD gives them superpowers and teach them to use their powers for good, not evil. But parents should know that my philosophy is “I’m not Jiffy Lube, and you can’t just drop them off and I fix them.” Parents must be involved in the treatment.

I am also blessed to work with couples, individuals and teens. With teens and adults, my goal usually is to help them” find the grey,” and that not everything in life is black and white. I also really enjoy working with the LGBTQ community. With couples, I enjoy helping them look at communication not being right or wrong. I truly feel therapy can be fun and I try to make it fun and enlightening for all my patients. Though, my approach is eclectic, I feel everyone should see progress, so I assign clients tangible strategies to try outside of our sessions.

I provide mental health services and complete evaluations for various bariatric surgery candidates.

I now have the privilege and honor of joining forces with a dear friend and accomplished colleague of 22 years, Martha Brand, LCSW, in creating our virtual facility MT Your Mind PLLC. Our approaches to treatment are different, allowing us to fulfill our goals and passion to help as many people as possible who can benefit from different methods of care. We are certified in Telemental Health and can see patients all over the United States.
